['trɛvə], William, eigentlich W. Trevor Cọx, irischer Schriftsteller, * Mitchelstown (County Cork) 24. 5. 1928; war Geschichts- und Kunstlehrer, Bildhauer und Werbetexter. Schildert in seinen Romanen und Erzählungen mit zum Teil sardonischen Humor Einsamkeit und Desillusionierung exzentrischer Charaktere, häufig innerhalb geschlossener Gruppen, z. B. bei einem Klassentreffen (»The old boys«, R., 1964, deutsch »Altherrentag«), in Pensionen (»The boarding house«, R., 1965; »Mistress Eckdorf in O'Neill's hotel«, R., 1969) oder im Krankenhaus (»Elizabeth alone«, R., 1973).
